If $$\frac{x^2 – 2x – 2}{2} = 3$$, what is one possible value of x?

A) -4

B) -3

C) -2

D) 2

E) 3

I know this is a rather simple problem that I came across online, but I cannot seem to figure out the best/quickest way to solve it. I don't have the answer, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

$$x^2-2x-2 = 6$$

or$$x^2-2x+1 = 9$$

or $$(x-1)^2 = 9$$

(x-1) = 3 or -3

Thus, x = 4 OR -2.

$$\frac{x^2 - 2x - 2}{2}=3$$

$$x^2- 2x - 2=6$$
$$x^2 - 2x - 8=0$$
$$(x-4)(x+2)=0$$

Possible solutions x=-2 or x=4

Thanks for the help vinaymimani & Zarrolou!

I was mistakenly adding the 6 to the -2 instead of subtracting, so I kept getting x^2 - 2x + 4.. thereby making the problem way more complex than needed, lol. It must have been late!

Appreciate the quick followups,
