$$x^2=√3$$
$$x^4=3$$
$$x^8=3^2 = 9$$

or you can do it directly
$$x^8 = (x^2)^4 = (√3)^4 = 9$$

We are given that x^2 = 3^(½)

Thus, x^8 is:

(x^2)^4 = (3^½)^4

x^8 = 3^2 = 9
