The equation $$ax^2+bx+c=0$$ has real roots when $$b^2-4ac>0$$

In the equation $$x^2 - 7x + |k| = 0$$, $$a=1$$, $$b=-7$$, $$c=|k|$$

Therefore $$(-7)^2-4(1)(|k|)>0$$

$$49-4|k|>0$$
$$4|k|<49$$
$$|k|<12.25$$

$$-12.25<k<12.25$$

So $$k$$ can take all integer values from -12 to 12 that is 25 values
