Let x = 2 or x = -2.

We do not know anything about y.

y could be negative or positive or even zero.

Insufficient

2) y^3 < 0

y is negative so, Let y= -2.

x could be negative or positive or even zero.

Insufficient

Combine 1 & 2

x =2 & y= -2..........xy <0....Answer is No

x =-2 & y= -2..........xy >0....Answer is Yes

Insufficient

Answer: E

Is x•y > 0
thus ,does x and y have the same sign? Yes/No

(St1) x^2 >0
No info about y (not suff)

(St2) y^3 <0
No info about x (not suff)

(1+2) x can be -ve or +ve ,but we know y is -ve from (st2)
Hence x•y is -ve or +ve (not suff)

Answer E

The question asks whether x and y have the same sign. (1) says that x ≠ 0 (x^2 >= 0 for all values of x, so x^2 > 0 just means that x ≠ 0). (2) says that y < 0. When combining we only have that x ≠ 0 and y < 0. It's possible that both x and y are negative as well as x is positive and y is negative.

Answer: E.
