If x and y are integers, is y an even integer?
(1) 2y – x = x^2 – y^2
(2) x is an odd integer.

A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient

2y – x = x^2 – y^2 ,

2y+y^2 = x^2 +x

y(2+y) = x(x+1) 2 consecutive intigers = even

thus

y(2+y) = even , ( 2y+y^2) is even, only even + even or odd+odd = even, since 2y is even thus y^2 is even too, therfore y is even..suff
