Need:
If x is an integer from 1 to 10, inclusive. What is the value of x?
Option A:The tenth digit of 1/x is x
We need an integer which when divided by 1 does not result in terminating decimal as we need to find the tenth digit. We can easily eliminate 1 and most other even numbers except 6, which is a repeating decimal. Eliminate 1,2,4,5,8,9 and 10.
We are left with 3,6 and 7. Here we can eliminate 7 since 1/7 results in 6 digits which repeats again.
1/3 = 0.33 (Tenths digit is 3)
1/6 = 0.16 (Tenths digit is not 6)
We have only one choice, that is 3, so option A is Sufficient
Option B: The hundredth digit of 1/x is x
We can use the same logic we used in option A to eliminate choices, and we end up with 3 and 6 again.
1/3 = 0.33 (Hundredths digit equal to 3)
1/6 = 0.16 (Hundredths digit equal to 6)
We get 2 choices here. So option B is Insufficient.
Ans:
ABunuel - I believe in both option A and B, it should be Tenths and Hundredths instead of Tenth and Hundredth. Please let me if am wrong.
