If x is y percent of z, is y greater than 100?
\(x= \frac{y}{100}*z\)
y >100?

(1) \(\frac{z}{x} = 0.8\)
\(x= \frac{y}{100}*z\)
\(\frac{x}{z} = \frac{y}{100}\)
\(\frac{z}{x} = \frac{100}{y} =0.8\)
\(y = \frac{100}{0.8}\)
y>100 YES

SUFFICIENT.

(2) x decreased by 20% is equal to z
0.8x = z. Thus
\(\frac{z}{x} = 0.8 = \frac{100}{y}\)
Again same as statement 1.

SUFFICIENT.

D , Imo
If x is y percent of z, is y greater than 100?

x = y z / 100 => y = 100 x / z

so y > 100 will depend on whether x/z >1 ?

(1) z/x = 0.8

--- We can find the value of x / z and answer the question ..
St 1 Sufficient ..

(2) x decreased by 20% is equal to z

0.8x = z .
--- We can find the value of x / z and answer the question ..
St 2 Sufficient ..

If x is y percent of z, is y greater than 100?

(1) z/x = 0.8

(2) x decreased by 20% is equal to z

stem: is x>z

1) z=4/5x
x=5/4z = 1.25z
so y=125%
sufficient

2)x-0.2x=z
0.8x=z
same as above
sufficient

\(x=\frac{y}{100}(z)\)

Or, \(y=\frac{100x}{z}\)

(1) \(\frac{z}{x} = 0.8\)

\(\frac{x}{z}=\frac{1}{0.8}=1.25\)

So \(y=100*1.25=125\) \((y>100)\)

1 is sufficient

(2) \(x\) decreased by \(20%\) is equal to \(z\)

\(0.8x=z\) or \(x=\frac{z}{0.8}\)

So \(y=\frac{100*\frac{z}{0.8}}{z}=125\) \((y>100)\)

2 is sufficient

A/Q, x * y/100 = z ....(I)

Is y greater than 100?

(1) z/x = 0.8

From (I)
z/x = y/100 => y/100 = 0.8
=> y = 80
y is smaller than 100

Sufficient

(2) x decreased by 20% is equal to z

x - x *20/100 = z
=> x * 0.8 = Z
Comparing this eqn with (I), y/100 =0.8 => y = 80
y is smaller than 100

Sufficient.

This response is incorrect. Y>100 for both
