If xy > 0 and xz < 0, which of the following must be true?

\(xy>0:\) This means x and y have SAME sign. Both positive or both negative.
\(xz<0:\) This means both x and z have opposite signs.

I. \(\frac{y}{z} < 0\)………Both y and z have opposite sign, so \(yz <0\) and also \(\frac{y}{z}<0\) or \(\frac{z}{y}<0\). TRUE always.

II. xyz < 0
If x and y are positive, then z<0 and xyz<0.
But if x and y are negative, then z>0 and xyz>0.
Not always true.

III. xy - xz > 0
xy>0 and xz<0……xy>0>xz………xy>xz………xy-xz>0
Add the same sides of equality => xy+0>0+xz……xy-xz>0
TRUE always

I and III

Re: If xy > 0 and xz < 0, which of the following must be true? [#permalink]
xy>0, xz<0
=> x,y : same sign (positive or negative) and z is an opposite of x,y
=> y/z <0 => I is always correct.
=>xz<0 => xy-yz >0 => III is correct
Therefore, the answer is D
