If xy not= 0, is /x/*y^2 positive??

i have a fundmental question here

my answer is we van never know

because /x/ is -x whenever x<0

and +x whenver x>0

am i right or wut

the officila answer says /x/ is always positive by definition. what am i missing here????????????

|x| is always +ve.

When x = 5, |x| = 5, which is +ve
when x = -5, |x| = -(-5) = 5, which is again +ve.
Thus, if x is -ve, then |x| = -x but still that results in a +ve no.
