on the 23 we had the following nationalities:
2 Americans - both accepted
Spanish - accepted
Austrian - accepted

Indian (worked in the US and grew up in Dubai) aka me = waitlisted

doesnt help that I have the standard Indian telco/IT profile albeit in sales and business development......

For those of you for whom the attraction of IMD is the personal development focus, please be advised that after wondering whether it is just a marketing spin or if it is indeed unique to IMD here's what I've found out.

IMD alum:
- a lot of self-reflection through 8 psychoanalytical assignments each of which is reviewed and commented by a shrink / pshycho analyst
- regular feedback around 12 through the year
- 20 hours of the psychoanalytical Jungian coach (optional)
- each study group is followed by a coach

LBS alum:
- feedback from the group mates on class participation and contribution (very similar to 360 degree feedback used in many companies)

So, I would say all in all IMD does have the edge over LBS in this particular field which is also substantiated by the fact that whereby in other schools the feedbacks and all may be optional in IMD this forms a mandatory part of the program.

Slightly off-topic, however, worth mentioning for those people considering lesser ranked and cheaper alternatives.

The only other school that I know of that practices the same approach is Cranfield (http://www.som.cranfield.ac.uk/som/) in the UK. It has perhaps a less glamorous, accomplished and internationally diverse student body, its location in British country side is nothing compared to small but quite international Lausanne, it is easier to get in there, but on the other hand it's also costs a lot cheaper.

Also, similar to IMD its focus is on the real life application where it's a leader in the UK for executive education and many of its faculty have prior business rather than purely academic experience.

lookingatx, R3 should be still ok but do not go for R4 if you are Indian because getting a visa would then be an issue. It s a long process to get it !

Then to come back to the International Consulting Projects, we have just started to our new group and we are all meeting our 15 clients during the month of April. Then we will work on it the whole month of may with our client. These projects are really exciting. For my project, i will work for a leading dermatology company that employs 4000 people around the world and report directly to the VP of Marketing and the CEO !
I really think these ICP are really a different offering that IMD brings to us. Of course, this is industry-focused. But this is what IMD is about !

Seems like we have many recjections from accepted candidates huh? Wonder if any one know the reasons? Seems like out of this first round, IMD must have gotten close to 50% rejection, way above its usual acceptance rate of 75%+...

I only applied to IMD, researched a lot before and was the only school I wanted. So accepting was an easy decision.

For those rejecting, maybe higher cost of IMD as compared to other 1 year programs? Focus on industry? Very interested to hear the reasons...

Cheers,
Henrique

it was mainly for personal reasons and post-MBA goals.

1 chose Insead over IMD, 2 LBS and another 1 Booth.

I was also surprised because attending the assessment day is already a big commitment.

I think the acceptance rate might be quite high because IMD waitlist many candidates and some of them will chose another school's offer (so they are never offered a seat) and the patient folks are likely to accept later on.

on facebook we are 11 members but it looks like only 6 have accepted the offer!

If you have any particular questions - I'll be happy to answer them. Otherwise I highly recommend you to check the 2012 thread for posts of current year MBA candidates - based on my experiences with 2 assessment days I can only confirm their words and express all the gratitude to them for doing great job of putting into the text their experiences.

Wish you good luck with your IMD MBA journey!

PS I've noticed you tried to collect statistics regarding the nationalities of the people accepted in round 1 - for 03/04 assessment day two accepted are Chinese and Ukrainian (from what I know both of us accepted the offer), five waitlisted are two French, two Chinese and one Indian. Hope this information is useful for you.

Waouh! A huge number of waitlisted and no dinged after interview!!!!! I am quite surprised, it looks like IMD has changed its admission strategy. Don't despair guys I am sure this year they will accept many from the waitlist.
