Any school is debatable... Let's say INSEAD - ranked high but the the reputation of it is droping and they are beeing "acused" for being a "MBA machine". BTW, the proportion of faculty member to the amount of students is on of the best in IMD (1/3)

This remark "INSEAD...reputation .. is droping" is as questionable as "they (IMD) are disorganized and have a haughty attitude". I could add another one in this range: when a friend of mine - INSEAD alumnus - found that I want to apply to IMD, he said to me: "why??! what do to you imagine you could learn from and how the class mood will be when you will be surrounded only by old engineers?!?". I won't discuss such statements.

Going back to arguments based on facts, it's true that IMD's % faculty/students is 30% (30/90, if "which MBA" info is correct), higher than, let's say, LBS - 31% (98/320) - so the "quantity" factor is ok.
But what about "quality" factor? An example: both IMD (http://www.imd.ch/news/IMD-Professor-Le ... iaries.cfm) and LBS (http://www.london.edu/newsandevents/new ... _1069.html) covered the DAVOS 2010 event. But whilst the IMD professor took notes from aside, the LBS professors participated in or even moderated the discussion panels! I think this could give a clue what's the story with the "quality" factor ....

About the smaller class and the "strong connections" between students. Few months ago I met an IMD alumnus to discuss about school. When I shown enthusiasm about the "small class", he smiled and said: "Look, I have 5-6 close buddies and I know quite well another 20-30 colleagues. With another 20-30 I had several discussions but with the rest (20-30) I hardly talk during the year". Guess what?! The numbers are very similar with the ones for a LBS, INSEAD or Vlerick alumnus, which I also talked to.

One factor is that whatever the total number of MBA students per year, they are split in clusters or classes of 90-100, so the class environments are pretty similar. Another factor - the most important, IMHO - is that one's will and desire to construct strong bonds with one's mates are the most important. So if this is the most important reason for you to be in school, you would focus your time to network with all your 90 (150,250, 350, 480, etc) colleagues; if not, really doesn't matter if your class is 90, 50 or 30 - you'll continue to be alone, because that's the way you want to.

One reason for not so higher increase (in %age) in post MBA salary might be that most of the IMD graduates end up in industry rather than in IB or consulting.

As a Punjabi female I am quite curios about the social climate of the institutions in which i will study. Please pardon my innocence but I do think that it is just as important as rankings!

From my research on the Internet and talking to other friends who have lived in Switzerland they say. "Good luck finding housing in Switzerland unless you are Swiss. Good luck finding employment in Switzerland." Reduction in work visas and rampant xenophobia facilitated by immigration processing at the cantonal level. Know before you go. It IS very important because racism is very high, not just a little in Switzerland. Indians are harassed regularly. This occurs weather you are on any financial status.

I think this is VERY relevant to discussing any MBA program!

IMD has a special arrangement with an estate agency in Lausanne, so finding housing is not a problem.

With regards to salary increase, it can be explained by higher starting salaries as well as the fact 70% of the students go into the industry rather than financial services or consulting. The working hours in industry tend to be lower than in finance/consulting, so one could argue that on the pay per hour basis the increase is comparable. Also, as others indicated, in several rankings, e.g. Forbes and FT, IMD ranks up in the top in terms of ROI and Value for Money.

Lausanne, for its size, is very international and I don't think IMD alums have problem with employment in Switzerland as quite a few of them do stay in Switzerland - I know a few people personally.

In terms of general management and personal development focus, I believe IMD is up there with the top 10 US schools and European schools.

The network of IMD may not be that big compared to LBS and Insead, but the quality of response I got out of the alums exceeded all of my expectations. It's not to say that alums of other schools were not responsive.

Disclaimer: admitted to IMD (as well as Cambridge and Cranfield, both with ££, waiting for LBS results tomorrow)

Hi Bergeron, May be you heard a lot of rumors from friends, what about I show you some facts...

LBS 2011 career stats:
london. edu/ assets/documents/programmes/MBA_2011_Employment_Report(2). pdf

INSEAD 2010 career stats:
mba. insead. edu/documents/MBA_EMPLOYMENT_STATISTICS. pdf

IMD 2010 career stats:

HBS 2011 career stats:
hbs. edu/recruiting/mba/data-and-statistics/employment-statistics. html

Wharton 2011 career stats:
mbacareers. wharton. upenn. edu/statistics/ft-location-choices. cfm

Exchange rate on 3/31/12
USD/EUR: 1.3343
USD/GBP: 1.6008

IMD: $128,093 (Basic) +$23,617 (Sign-on)
Wharton (Int): $113,000 (Basic) +$33,350 (Sign-on)
HBS: $120,000 (Basic) +$20,000 (Sign-on)
Wharton (US): $120,000 (Basic) +$20,000 (Sign-on)
LBS: $112,056 (Basic) + 24,012 (Sign-on) INSEAD:$113,415 (Basic) + \$20,548 (Sign-on)

If you like percentage, go to school with higher percentage of salary increase.
If you like money, go to school with higher salary after graduate.

I think the salary comparaison is little biaised as some of the IMD graduates work in switzerland where the salary is higher than everywhere else.

It all depends on goal, I think the performance is remarkable because we have to bear in mind that 78% of IMD graduates go to industry compare to consulting or banks in other schools.

Hi Mazwaz, As you mentioned that some of IMD graduates get a job in Switzerland and therefore increased IMD's average salary. Would you please share the source for where you get this information? How many (or percentages of) IMD graduates get a job in Switzerland? It will be very helpful for this discussion since Bergeron has heavily questioned IMD's ability to place their graduate in Switzerland and suggest us to prove her argument by "Google it".

By the way, in order to prevent the average affected by extreme cases, I have already quoted the median value instead of the mean value.

Of course, we can create endless meaningless discussion by using the same logic to argue that Wharton and LBS sent their graduates to ibanks and affected their average or HBS and INSEAD graduates start their own company and affected their average.. blah blah blah... and etc...

I don't have proper percentage or number but on linkedin you can find a good number of alumni working in switzerland and I also got the same explication from an IMD alumni who told me that Insead and IMD was pretty the same in term of average salary. He told me that the difference could be explained by more graduates working in SW.

However, I can confirm that finding a job in SW is not an easy task nowadays because the swiss franc has become strong. (got this from my assessment day)
