Improve 600-700 level math questions [#permalink]

Dear forum members,

I started my GMAT preparation around two months back and took my first MGMAT CAT yesterday. I scored a 640 (Q: 44, V: 34). I am wondering how to improve my quant score (Verbal too, but SC is my problem area, so its better defined). A review of my incorrect Quant answers shows that most wrong questions are in the 600-700 range. There is no specific problem area, i got wrong answers across the board, from number properties to work problems to Geometry. A few silly mistakes, but most wrong answers were for questions that I was unable to solve.

Books used for preparation:
- OG 11: Completed PS, CR, RC. Midway with SC, have not started DS
- MGMAT - all the 5 quant books, and SC
- Powerscore CR bible.

I am planning to take my GMAT test around the 2nd week of January 2011. I'd like to bump up my score to 48 range. Its been around 10 years since i got out of school. I was good at math in school, but i'm rusty now. Given this, i would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how i can improve my quant score. Would the Math challenges help here? I have heard about Jeff Sackman's total gmat math book. Is this helpfull?

I'd suggest you do the error log of all OG questions, both PS and DS. There are some really good error log templates on this forum. Once you finish both sections, run statistics of what gave you the most trouble. When making an error log, make sure you detail what was wrong with each question, ie. number properties or geometry. Try to be as detailed as you can. I think this should provide you with some idea of what you need to work on the most.
If that is not enough, do all 6 MGMAT CAts and read carefully through all the mistakes. Make sure that if you get any of already seen questions, you will be able to eliminate them no problem.
