This is an old question that has been reformulated. The choice "so that he could marry" remains the best, even though it does not exist here.

Hmmm...

I wld hv picked 'B' if the stem didn't hv the 'sought'
C- sounds almost right except for the incorrect idiom - shld be 'in order to'
None of the choices seem correct.
Guess 'A' is the best of all the poor choices.

That is the pupose of the question. There is no choice as
"so that he could marry".

Right answer is in the choices.

Ofcourse, we have to remember that there are multiple ways to correct a sentence.

I will post the OA and OE

The OA is C.

This question has been remodel after an OG question. According to OG,
"in order that" is a correct idiom.

so as to marry is wrong usage. You need So (adjective) as to (noun)
B is missing a subject.

E uses the correct idiom but fails to maintain a corect verb form of could or might.

D has incorrect idiom usage and used weird to be construction.

Hello Ritesh,

This was quite a curveball. I actually chose A, because so.. as to is the right idiom. I checked my notes, and here is what I found

Example:
Wrong: Goethe’s writing talents as
a poet, painter, and dramatist, were so diverse they inspired his many fans to refer to him as the “giant of Weimarâ€
