I would choose E for this one.
It seems like the correct comparasion. by woman over thirty years old than those were under 30.

I will go with E. Reason being that all others are in the past tense.
The original sentence is in present tense.

I'm between B and E.

I think I would choose E for eileen1017's same rationale...

In 1990’s, there are more babies born by women over thirty years old than [by women] under it.
E is awkward...'they' seems ambiguous.

the correct idiom is more x than y
there are
more babies born by women over thirty years old
than babies born by women under thirty years old

can ne one provide more specific reasoning... I feel that use of pronoun in E is ambiguous since one cant clearly tell as to what "those" is referring to.... also A is looking bit "incomplete".

I first went for E, but then realized that there is an ambiguity on what "those" refer to - babies or women. this is not clear...

from A thru D -> B,C and D can be obviously eliminated. A doesn't seem to be wrong as it refers to "age of 30 years"... So, comparison happens between above 30-mark and below 30-year age.. So, I now go for A...

In 1990's, there are more babies born by women over thirty years old than babies born by women under thirty years.
In 1990's, there are more babies born by women over thirty years old than those born by women under thirty years.

I hope you can understand why (A) is correct. I think the "THOSE" in "E" clearly refers to babies, but the construction was awkward.

Cheers!

Besides the above reasoning, in the non-underlined portion we are talking present tense, hence underlined portion should also be in present, but in E the sentence used past tense. IMO A.

Good question. Babies is the subject here and the women is the object here.
than those in E compares to babies

than under it in A compares woman under 30 to women above 30.

I fashioned my logic this way,

Present tense needs present tense. Is it wrong?

I also went with the approach of present tense.

B & D could be easily eliminated due to a wrong idiom.

C & E are in past tense while the sentence is in present tense, hence only option left is A

In 1990’s, there are more babies born by women over thirty years old than under it (babies born by women BELOW thirty years old )

Only option (A) uses correct comparison...

The pronoun "those" is ambiguous. It is not sure whether the pronoun refers to women or babies
