For a class of students in a chemistry class, if two fifths(40%) of the students are
from Nevada and a quarter(25%) of the class is from Washington, the remaining
14(which is 100-25-40 = 35%) of the class is from California, the total number of
students is $$\frac{14}{0.35} = 40$$

Therefore, the total number of students from Nevada is 40% of 40 which is 16(Option C)

California - 14
Nevada - $$\frac{2}{5}$$*X
Washington - $$\frac{1}{4}$$*X

$$\frac{3}{4}$$*X = 14+$$\frac{2}{5}$$*X
X = 40
Nevada = $$\frac{2}{5}$$*40 = 16
