1. "resulting from" cannot logically modify "generations", A out
2. "because of the result of " : redundancy, C out
3. B awkward
4. E awkward

D is the best

(A) resulting from the destruction of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria, (Reuslting from - what is resulting?? It's sounding ambiguous)
(B) the destroying of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria resulted and(Resulted -- No verb parallelism)
(C) because of the result of the destruction of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world, (Because of, result of - Redundancy)
(D) as a result of the destruction of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world, --- Error free
(E) Alexandria’s largest library of the ancient world was destroyed, and the result was(result was, later generations lost.....doesn't sound correct)

A- out- because,resulting.. the cause is still not resulting. It happened just once and the result is causing the effect.
B - there are no two sentences.. the first clause is the cause and the second is the effect.. usage of and is awkward
C -because & result of... redundancy
D - Correct
E - there are 3 mistakes in it
1. Changes the meaning of the sentence..
2. wrong usage of and.. and
3. the verb "was" is wrong. the effect is still continuing

I agree the best answer is d) but isn't the use of - "of the" twice in the sentence considered awkward?

d) as a result of the destruction of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world,
