Definitely E

comparing animal to animal here, not animal to temperature. So A, B, C are out. "their" is plural, so "bears" is correct, not singular bear.

Sentence has parallel and subject-verb issue
In contrast to X, Y [ Both X and Y need to be parallel] – eliminate A, B and C

(A) the body temperature of bears remains nearly normal

(B) a nearly normal body temperature is maintained by bears

(C) a bear’s body temperature remains nearly normal

(D) a bear maintains a body temperature that is nearly normal [Singular “Bear” cannot refer “their” – eliminate it]

(E) bears maintain a nearly normal body temperature [Hold it]
