POE and 2/3 splits

green fields + surround [plural]

eliminate B and E

the patchwork + bustles [singular]

eliminate D

Between A and C, the only difference in the second part of the sentence:
many of them VS many of who are

many of who are sounds incorrect and hence A wins

Although I can see how A is th best among the answer choices, I don't like this question a bit as the original, and correct, sentence sounds very awkward and incorrectly phrased. sometimes I would rather go with C as it has fewer errors.

I don't think a question like this will show up on the GMAT.

I go with (B)

I consider 'the patchwork' as the subject ans hence vote the singular verb - surrounds.

B - also correctly uses 'whom' - object pronoun reference for farmers.

Interesting question .. OA ? :)

I pick B also. The patchwork is the subject and it's singular. Many of whom means many of the farm workers, which is more clear.

Agree with grad_mba...E it is...of greenfields is just a middleman.
