There is really one variable in this question: other unknowns can be derived from the number of days in total Terry has to complete the reading assignment. So let x be that number of days. We have: 90x = Total number of pages = 75(x6) + 690 So 15x = 240 x = 16 QED.

Please correct me if I am wrong,
My thinking is She has 690 pages left for the last 6 days She supposed to 540 pages left (since she planned to read 90 pages per day)
690540= 160 pages behind)
She had been reading 75 pages per day, (9075= 15 behind every day) 160/15= 10~ days at the beginning 10~days+ the last 6 days = 16

Total Page = 75n + 690 Average is 90 so , [[75n+90]/n+6 ]] = 90 = 75n + 690 = 90n + 540 = 15n = 150 n = 10 days [she read 75 pages per day] She will require = 10+6 = 16 days.

Actually as per plan only 90*6 = 540 pages should have been left for 6 days. Why were there 690 540 = 150 extra pages left to read? Because she read 15 fewer pages each day. To gather 150 extra pages left unread, she must have read 15 fewer pages for 10 days. "How many days in all did Terry have to complete the assignment on time?"She has already read for 10 days and has 6 more to go so she had total 16 days. Answer (B)

Let number of days with 90 pages per day be x Hence total pages in book is 90x
However, for the beginning days (lets say y) only 75 pages were read, hence 75y+690=90x
we know y+6=x days, so
75 y+ 690 = 90 (y+6) 75 y+ 690= 90y+ 540
15 y= 150 y= 10
total days= 10+6= 16

Let's start with a word equationWe can write: ( total number of pages to be read at INTENDED rate of 90 pages/day) = ( total number of pages ACTUALLY read at 75 pages/day) + 690 more pages Let x = number of days to complete reading assignment at 90 pages per day So, x 6 = number of days reading at 75 pages per day (since Terry spent the last 6 days reading 690 pages) At a rate of 90 pages/day, 90x = number of pages that COULD be read in x days At a rate of 75 pages/day, 75(x 6) = number of pages ACTUALLY read in x6 days We get: 90x = 75(x 6) + 690 Expand to get: 90x = 75x 450 + 690 Simplify to get: 90x = 75x + 240 We get: 15x = 240 Solve: x = 240/15 = 16 Answer: B Cheers, Brent

Let's apply logics. She had some "slow" days (x) and "quick" days (6). Plan: 90 p/day Actual: 75 p/day So, every day she was getting 90 75 = 15 pages behind. If she was on schedule, she would have had 90 p/day * 6 days = 540 pages, but she is left with 690 pages. So, she fell behind by 150 pages, which are now extra work. We already know that during the "slow" days she fell behind by 15 pages every day, and the total of "extra work" is 150 pages, so she had 150 / 15 = 10 "slow" days. In total, we have 10 slow days and 6 quick days > 10+6 = 16. Those who like procrastination most likely solved this problem without any issues

Let x be the number of days we are solving for.
Terry was supposed to read 90x pages over x days.
We are told that she read 75 pages per day at first and 690 for the last 6 days. Easy equation can be set up:
75 (x6) + 690 = 90x
Solving for x: 75x  450 + 690 = 90x 15x = 240 x = 16
Answer is (B)
I think that this is the fastest method, it is faster than considering x as the number of days she spent reading 75 pages a day, as this method directly gets us to the 16 days rather then solving for x = 10 and then adding the 6 to get 16.
What do you think?

Say, total days needed 't' days. So, total pages = 90t During 6 days she completed = 690 pages. The remaining days = (t6)*75 pages So, Total pages =total pages => 90t = (t6)75 +690 => 90t = 75t  450 +690 => t =16 (Ans. B)

B option is correct This question is more of logic.
Assume total days= x in which terry should read 90 pages per day. Therefore total pages = 90x
But he read 75 pages per day at the start and then at last he left with 690 pages with 6 days left.
Therefore he spend 6 days reading 690 pages and the required days to read 75 pages per day.
x6= Days terry used while reading 75 pages per day. Therefore
75(x6) + 690= 90x solve the equation,
x= 16 days
