In the figure above, the measure of angle CAE is equal to the measure of angle BAD. Which of the following must be true?

(A) x = y

It should be C.

A - Only true if AD bisects CAE and we do not know that from the figure.
B - Only true if AC bisects BAD and we do not know that.
C - True
D - Uncertain for the same reasons as A and B.
E - NA.

Angle CAE = Angle BAD

x + y = Angle CAE
z + y = Angle BAD

x + y = z + y, subtract y from both

x = z

Given, CAE = BAD
Hence x + y = y + z

Therefore x = z

Since angle CAE = angle BAD:

y + x = z + y

x = z

Answer: C
