(1) y = 50
(2) 240 = x + y + z

To find 'x', we need to know the relation with other angles;
Option 1: Y=50; This tells us that Z=130, and using exterior angle theorem, we can deduce that X+opp angle in smaller triangle = 130; however, cannot determine exact value of X - Insufficient.
Option 2: X+Y+Z=240; we know Y+Z=180, thus X=60; Sufficient

From the figure we can see that Y+Z=180.
Statement 1: y = 50
we can not calculate x as there are still 2 unknowns in the smaller triangle.
Insufficient.

Statement 2: 240 = x + y + z
hence We can calculate x. No need of actual calculation.
Sufficient.
