Re: In the given diagram, ABCD is a square and the coordinate of B is (5,5 [#permalink]
C is the answer

Coordinate of B is (5,5) and side of Square is 2 each. So coordinates of A is (5,3)

Subsequently coordinates of D is (7,3)

In the given diagram, ABCD is a square and the coordinate of B is (5,5). If the length of each side is 2 units and AB is parallel to the y-axis, find the coordinate of D.

A. (3,5)
B. (5,3)
C. (7,3)
D. (7,5)
E. (7,7)

Solution

    • In square ABCD,
      o B is (5,5)
o AB is parallel to the y-axis
 It means, both B and A will have same x – coordinate.
o And, the length of each side is 2 units.
         Thus, the co-ordinates of point A = (x-coordinate of B , (y-coordinate of B \(-2\))) \(= (5,3)\)
    • Since, AB is parallel to y axis and AD is perpendicular to AB
o It means, AD is parallel to x-axis.
         So, both A and D will have same y – coordinate.
o And as the length of each side is 2 units.
         Thus, the co-ordinates of point D = ((x-coordinate of A \(+2\)), y-coordinate of A) \(= (7,3)\)
Thus, the correct answer is Option C.
