In the xy-plane, the line with equation ax + by + c = 0, where abc ≠ 0, has slope 2/3 . What is the value of b?
(1) a = 4
(2) c = −6

A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT

So this is weird ... i rearranged the equation to get y= (-a/b)x - (c/b)

From this, cant I conclude that the slope is -a/b, and that it is equal to the slope provided in the question ?

A.
(1) Slope = -a/b = 2/3. Given a we can definitely calculate b.
(2) Not Sufficient. Knowing c does not tell us anything about a or b.
