Industrial solvents, which can damage the liver, kidneys, and nervous system, often drain into public water supplies. Currently, tested water is considered pure if the amount of solvent an individual is exposed to through drinking one-half gallon of water per day - roughly what a typical adult drinks per day - does not pose a significant threat to human health. But many toxicologists claim that the standards set by this method does not adequately protect the public.

The conclusion casts doubt on the standards used by the method. This implies that the quote of 'one-half gallon of water per day' is inadequate. We need to strengthen that these standards are underestimated. So any choice that conveys that an adult body consumes more than the started figure, would strengthen the claim of toxicologist.
A: says just the opposite by stating that the quantity of contaminated water that an adult is in contact with, is less than one-half gallon of water per day excluding the beverages. While B,C, and D are irrelevant, E hits the point that the quantity of contaminated water that an adult is in contact with, is more than one-half gallon of water per day including other ways such as via skin absorption.
