Hi

I would like to know to what extent does a low IR score impact your admission to bschool?

Hi,

That's a bit of a tricky question, because the IR section is new and schools are still trying to figure out what to make of it. At this point, they have no data about how well the IR score correlates to other things they value, such as success in your graduate program or your career. For that reason, many schools are not paying much attention to IR right now. Some schools, such as Stanford, have flat-out said they will be ignoring IR this year. Others may be considering it as one small data point. My advice is to try not to do poorly, but not to expend too much energy trying to do really well. If you taking the test now but don't plan on applying for a few years, you may want to take a bit more care, but it's possible that the IR section will remain like the essay--a much less important data point than your main GMAT score. We'll know more in a year or two.
