Hi Friends,

I have my Columbia interview scheduled with a SoCal alum today. We spoke on the phone real briefly on Friday and he mentioned that he dresses pretty casually. I kind of ignored it, as I was intending to wear a suit anyway. However, I called him again this morning and he reiterated that he dresses really casual, that I am his only meeting today, and that I shouldn't feel like I have to get all "decked out" and it won't have any impact on anything. Based on this I was thinking of going with slacks, shirt, and tie. Or should I stick with a suit....or go even less formal?

Thanks,
RG

I wouldn't go with the suit, but that's just me. I wore slacks and a dress shirt to my Ross interview (no tie) and that worked out.

I would suggest wearing a dress shirt and slacks and a tie if you want to. I know he said it does not matter, but I think it is always better to put your best foot forward. So definitely no jeans/t-shirt etc.

Ry, if he specifically said that you needn't get decked out, I would skip the suit. The outfit you've selected sounds like a nice compromise.

Just be sure to start saying that: Oh I'm wearing cusual clothes because you said twice, etc, etc...

haha, if he's insisting, then just wear a nice shirt and slacks (shoes). Tie is optional.

I'd skip the tie if he insisted multiple times to keep it casual. Slacks and a dress shirt should suffice (without making it look like you can't take directions).
