Hi guys,

A quick question: for HBS interviews, does it impact one's chances negatively if you interview over skype instead of in person? As in, is there a historical trend to this?

Thanks

I don't know about any historical trend and you would be hard pressed to find data on it, but in general, an in person interview is FAR preferable to a Skype interview. Skyping does not quite capture the full communication spectrum and is a bit awkward to boot. If you find you must Skype, one tip would be to place the computer up 12" or more off the desk so the interviewer is not having to look up your nose or at the ceiling behind you. Make sure your connection is good and that you use a headset microphone so you sound like you are in the room, and not calling from space. Also, I recommend you don't have a window onscreen with yourself showing so you are not tempted to watch yourself the whole time, which is distracting. Finally, dress for a SKype interview just like you would for the in person interview.
