One question asked during interview to a candidate from IT background

" What are the current trends in IT?"

What does it mean by 'current trend'? What would be trend in any industry?
Is oursourcing a trend in IT?
Is merger a trend in Steel industry?
Is spending more money on R n D a trend in Car manufacturing industry???

Plz help!

This is very generic question but he is definitely trying to see whether your views are confined only to your company or you are aware of IT in general ;)

Outsourcing is definitely a trend in Indian IT scene but current very interesting trend that can catch attention of any interviewer is the slow transition from service to product & R&D. India is well known for service (outsourcing) industry but few companies are definitely trying to change that view to product view. This includes both Indian and MNCs.
