Hey guys
I took my GMAT last week. Got a 720 - 49 in quant and 40 in verbal.
I am looking at an MBA from one of the top schools ( First choice- Kelloggs) .
Do you think 49 o nquant in enough or do I need to take the GMAt again.

Looking forward to some suggestions from you.

Thanks!!
Zeenie

Why would you think its too low? Your percentile split is Q88%,V89%. That's almost a 90/90 split and schools like to see an 80/80 split but even that's not absolutely necessary.

Read more on the forums in the b-school applications forum and see that once you get to a certain score, generally over 700, the GMAT really doesn't matter anymore.

My advice is only retake it if you feel confident to raise your score by 40 or more points and get into the 99% of test takers. Otherwise, I don't think adcoms are really going to look at your 720 and compare it to a 750 and say "Oh, this 720 should have had a 750. Guess he can reapply next year." It's going to be about your essays. This isn't documented anywhere, but I would say the weight of your GMAT score, once you get 700+, is about 10% of the application, and even then once you get above the 80/80 split, even less.

Richard Montauk's book actually has quotes from top mba adcoms saying they don't think the GMAT matters all that much. They want to make sure you can do the quant part of their program but no one is going to see Q49 and think you're a bit off on your math abilities. That's just crazy talk!

49 in Quant is not that bad unless you want to go to MIT where they give preference applicants with high quant. Otherwise this is a very decent score for top BSchool application.
