Re: Is it worth studying Kaplan 800 [#permalink]
I completely agree with the above two posters. Although the Kaplan book is named "800", it definitely does not have the toughest collection of questions. If you are looking to practice problems in the 650-700 range to work on accuracy (vs. challenging yoourself with the toughest questions) then I'd go with the Kaplan 800.

As others have said, Kaplan 800 is a great book for challenging problems and specific content, but it's not a complete course with strategies for test-taking or question types. If you've already covered a book such as Kaplan GMAT Premier, then you want Kaplan 800--there's no point learning a completely new set of techniques when you've already got one down! But if you're looking for a single book for your entire study plan, then that's not what Kaplan 800 is intended for. You'd want the Powerscore books or, again, Kaplan GMAT Premeir.

Good luck with your preparation!

Slightly off topic: I have Kaplan's 800 and plan to use it in the last two weeks for practicing with harder questions, after the OG and Manhattan 8 Guides set; would that be appropriate or are there harder question banks to be found?

Re: Is it worth studying Kaplan 800 [#permalink]
Sorry if my post caused any misunderstanding. The Kaplan 800 questions are definitely challenging. What I meant to say was that those weren't the hardest problems I ever encountered. For the record, the hardest questions I ever came across were in the MGMAT and Kaplan practice CATs. However, in my opinion, those extremely difficult questions were probably more difficult (and time consuming) than any problem I was likely to encounter on the real GMAT. Basically, the most challenging problems are not always the best practice problems to be doing. My apologies if my posts are confusing.

Glad I could help. Also please keep in mind this was just my experience and take whatever I say with a grain of salt (I'm no expert).
