If you take a look at the question number 39 at Official Guide Edition 11 in sentence correction section, you will notice that spawned and extending are parallels. Now, I would like to know whether there is a list or method that you have found to solve this kind of question at GMAT, please let me know.

The lists and the methods have been found certainly, but they are all over the place and not compiled in a comprehensive document if that's what you are looking for.
