Is x positive?
(1) 0, on a number line, is close to x+10 than to x.
Hence mod(x+10)<mod (x)
Squaring we get, x^2+20x+100<x^2
or, 20x+100<0
x <-5
hence sufficient.
(2) 0, on a number line, is close to x than x-10.
hence mod(x)<mod(x-10)
squaring
x^2<x^2-20x+100
solving , x<5
but x can be 4 or -10
hence insufficient.
