(1) x - 5 > y - 5
(2) x^2> xy

Sol:
1) X-5>Y-5
X-5>Y-5
X-5-Y+5>0
X-Y>0
X>Y

2) X^2>XY
X^2>XY
X^2-XY>0
X(X-Y)>0
X=0 or X=Y
It is because X^2>XY has two result (1) X=0 (2) X=Y. this is why we ruled out other option like C and D.

I get confused many times.

Given: x(x-y)>0 --> the product of two multiples (x and x-y) is greater than zero, which means that either both multiples are positive (x>0 and x-y>0) or both multiples are negative (x<0 and x-y<0).

Is x > y?

(1) x - 5 > y - 5 --> add 5 to both parts: $$x > y$$. Sufficient.

(2) x^2> xy --> $$x(x-y)>0$$ --> $$x>0$$ and $$x-y>0$$ --> $$x>y$$ (answer YES, for example consider $$x=1$$ and $$y=0$$) OR $$x<0$$ and $$x-y<0$$ --> $$x<y$$ (answer NO, for example consider $$x=-1$$ and $$y=0$$). Not sufficient.

Can you explain the 2nd part of the Question - i.e Why we have to consider this part "OR x<0 and x-y<0 --> x<y (answer NO, for example consider x=-1 and y=0). Not sufficient"

That what i skip sometimes while doing inequalities - Considering both -ve and +ve - anyways thnaks.
