is xy < 6?

i) x<3 and y<2
ii) 1/2 < x < 2/3 and y^2 < 6

I chose D....it's wrong according to OA. Can someone shed some light?

the fist condition: x=1, y=1 --> xy=1<6; x=-10, y=-10 xy=100>6 insufficient.

i say B as well

from stat 1, we could have x=-3 and y=2, so xy=6 , etc. insuff

from 2, 0.5<x<0.666 and -3<y<3. The most xy can be is 3*2/3 , which is 2. So, suff in the end.
