the only thing should refer to one activity. D gives a list of three and hence I rejected that option.

B follows the parallel structure...'to leave them', 'to corral them' and 'to drive them'

My thot was the same too. Since there are 3 objects, one cannot use " The only thing...." However, D is grammatically correct since it maintains parallel structure while B does not.

D it is..

A) all one has to do with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves, corral them, and to
- need to before "corral them"
(B) all one has to do with cattle is to leave them alone to feed themselves, to corral them, and
- Changes the meaning. I dont know if themselves is for one or cattle.
(C) all one has to do with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves and then corral them and
- no need of then
(D) the only thing that has to be done with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves, corral them, and

(E) the only thing that has to be done with cattle is to leave them alone while they feed themselves, to corral them, and
- OUT need "TO" after and

The OA is C, D uses passive tense unnecessarily.

I dont agree with OA.

Just because a language is passive and grammatically correct does not rule out the possibility that it is right.

C is a total weird formation

use of 2 ands and then....

I agree that D is passive but maintains parallelism and does not change the meaning of the sentence...

its not weird at all. "leave them...corral them...drive them" is a parallel construction. D) and E) start with "the only thing" but actually there are three things to do.
