It is true that unionized women earn, on average, more than a third more than nonunionized women do. But the unionized women work in industries where wages happen to be high, their nonunionized counterparts in these industries earn about as much as they do. Therefore unionization does not raise women’s wages.
Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument above?
(A) Besides wage increases, unions bargain for benefits such as medical insurance and workplace safety.
(B) The most highly paid women are in executive positions, which are not unionized.
(C) Wages in many industries vary from one part of the country to another, regardless of whether workers are unionized or not.
(D) Nonunionized women in an industry often receive income increases as a result of increases won by unions representing women who work for other employers in the same industry.
(E) The unionization of women who work for one employer in a given industry frequently prompts the unionization of women who work for other employers in the same industry.

Looks like A.

Besides the wage, there are other benefits.

I vote for (D).

We are not talking abuot overall wellfare. We need to focus on the wages only.

However, D says that non-unionized women workers receive high salary thanks to the unionized women workers.

I got A on this one but agree with D.

The increase the non-unionized workers get is because of the unionized workers. It it does not happen for them the non-unionized workers will not get more.

I pick D!

The conclusion is - Level of wages is a result of the kind of industry that workers work in and all workers in a same industry receive the same wages irrespective of unions.

D shatters that.

D is the answer. It weakens the argument.

The argment ends with a conclusion that as unionized women work in higher wages paid industry then there wages are itself high.So it rules out the possibility that unionization doesn't raise women wages.

To weaken the conclusion we must look for answer choices that shows that unionization does raise women wages by alternative explanation or non-unionization workers are also paid higher wages, opposite of what is stated in the argument.

In D it says that non-unionized workers often receive income increases because of the unionized workers.
So it weakens the argument that non-unionized workers are not high paid.

Hope this makes clear.
