I go for E, because it's the most clear, in my view.

Can someone explain why D is incorrect?

Doesn't E sould as though the inventory turns over by itself?
Also doesn't E have "passive + acrive parts together"?

how items are placed and how frequently the inventory turns over.....

D

"how items are placed on shelves" is || with "how frequently is the inventory turned over "

In E, it seems that "can be crucial.." part is only applied to the last clause, and not to "how items are placed on shelves "
