Let John's present Age be J
John's father present Age is F
Raman's present age is R

John's present age is one fourth of his father's age two years ago. J = (F-2)/4 -----(1)

John's father's age will be twice Raman's age after 10 years. F+10 = 2(R+10)
=> (F+10)/2 = R+10
=> F/2 - 5 = R --------(2)

If Raman's 12th birthday was celebrated 2 years ago. R-2 = 12 => R = 14 -------(3)

Putting Value of R in equation 2
F/2 - 5 = 14
F/2 = 19
F = 38 -------(4)

Putting value of F in equation 1
J = (F-2)/4
J = 36/4
J = 9

John age = x , father = y and raman =z
given Raman's 12th birthday was celebrated 2 years ago
so present age of Raman = 14
also we know
x=1/4*(y-2)
and y+10= 2*(z+10)
z=14 so y = 38
and x= 9
OPTION C: 9 years is Present age of John

A. 5 years
B. 7 years
C. 9 years
D. 11 years
E. 12 years

Solution

• Let us assume that the John’s and his father’s present is j and f years, respectively.
• Raman’s 12th birthday was celebrated two years ago.
o It means present age of Raman $$= 12 + 2 = 14$$ years,
• Therefore, after 10 years,
o The age of Raman will be $$14 + 10 = 24$$ years,
o And the age of John’s father will be f+10
 Hence, $$(f + 10) = 2*24 ⟹ f = 38$$ years.
• Two years ago,
o The age of John’s father $$= f – 2 = 38 -2 = 36$$ years.
• Hence, the present age of John $$= j = \frac{1}{4}*(36) = 9$$ years.
Thus, the correct answer is Option C.

if 2 Years ago Raman was 12 then his age is 14 at present and 24 after 10 years
after 10 years John's father will be Jf+10=48
Present age Jf=38
J=1/4(Jf-2)
J=9

Raman's present age is 14. 10 years later he will be 24 and John's father will be 48. John's father's present age is 48-10 = 38. Johns present age is 1/4th of his father's age 2 years ago. So John's present age is 1/4(38-2) =9
