Please, please, please look at the answer choices before you start moving a bunch of variables all over your scratch paper. This is a variation on PITA (Plugging In The Answers).
Could David have donated 1/6 of $100? That's $16.6666666666. Not possible. B is wrong.
100 isn't divisible by C or E either. Those are wrong.
We are left with A and D. Let's just try one. I'll go with A.
(A) David donated 1/5 of the $100, so $20. John paid 5/3rds of what David did. Oh, wait a minute, 20 isn't divisible by 3. A is wrong.
Answer choice D.
