q1. A. It can’t be D. The hospitals are overwhelmed, not overwhelming. If an hospital is overwhelming, that means that it is a really loud busy place that’s giving you a headache or something. Or that it’s so great that it overwhelms you with its high quality. If the hospital is overwhelmed, it means that there are too many people in the wards for doctors to take care of.

Q1. In Varisland, when a subscriber of one telecom operator calls a subscriber of a different telecom operator, the latter’s telecom company charges a small connection fee to the originating operator, a fee stipulated by the regulator and same for every operator. Almost all the new telecom operators are enticing customers by charging much lower call rates than charged by the existing operators. Since the connection fee is one of the sources of revenue for new companies, an increase in the fee will significantly improve the financials of the new operators and enable them to compete better in the market. Which of the following statements is an assumption made by the author? A. The regulator will most probably agree with the author’s recommended course of action B. To improve the financials of the new companies, all the possible sources of revenues should be utilized in the best manner possible. C. One of the goals of the regulator is to make the telecom market highly competitive, which will ensure consumer welfare. D. For the new telecom operators, the connection fee does not form an insignificant proportion of their revenues E. New companies will not have to pay increased connection fee to the existing companies Difficulty - Hard

Q2. Policy analyst: Most government agencies become less effective over time. Some experts go so far as to recommend that every agency be eliminated after 10 years and created anew by replacing all of its existing personnel and revamping its bureaucratic structure. However, this policy would be impractical since certain government agencies perform vital functions, such as protecting national security, and therefore cannot afford even temporary upheaval. In the policy analyst’s argument above, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles? (A) The first is evidence offered in support of an opinion that the policy analyst rejects; the second offers information that contradicts that evidence. (B) The first is a premise that the policy analyst accepts but argues against; the second offers evidence that supports the analyst’s position. (C) The first is a position that the policy analyst argues against; the second is the position that the analyst defends. (D) The first is a generalization that the policy analyst accepts as accurate and is used as the basis for an opinion that the analyst rejects; the second is a consideration used to defend the analyst’s position. (E) The first is a generalization that the policy analyst accepts as accurate and is used as the basis for the analyst’s position; the second offers another consideration used to defend that position.

CR Questions November - 9 :

Q1. Although we manufacture one hundred types of mobile phones, we currently limit our stock to only the ten best-selling models. Our plan is to increase the number of mobile phones we sell by expanding our stock to contain the twelve most popular types.

Which of the following, if true, points out a major weakness in the plan above?

A. The capabilities of the four most popular mobile phones are approximately equivalent, with no model having consistent superiority in all respects.

B. The nine most popular types of mobile phones account for almost all mobile phones sold.

C. As the users of mobile phones have become more sophisticated, they are more willing to buy less well-known models.

D. Less popular types of mobile phones often provide less profit to the retailer because prices must be discounted to attract customers.

E. The leading type of mobile phone has been losing market position to less popular types that offer similar capabilities for less money.

Q2. Some educators claim that it is best that school courses cover only basic subject matter, but cover it in depth. These educators argue that if student achieve a solid grasp of the basic concepts and investigatory techniques in a subject, they will be able to explore the breadth of that subject on their own after the course is over. But if they simply learn a lot of factual information, without truly understanding its significance, they will not be well equipped for further study on their own.

The educator’s reasoning provides grounds for accepting which one of the following statements?

(A) It is easier to understand how plants and animals are classified after learning how plants and animals can be useful

(B) It is more difficult to recall the details of a dull and complicated lecture than of a lively and interesting one.

(C) It is easier to remember new ideas explained personally by a teacher than ideas that one explores independently.

(D) It is easier to understand any Greek tragedy after one has analyzed a few of them in detail.

(E) It is easier to learn many simple ideas well than to learn a few complicated ideas well.

Id go with D here as well - usefulness does not necessarily mean depth in the topic and classification/usefulness are not parallels

For Q1, I think B is the answer. If nine most popular types of mobile phones account for almost all mobile phones sold, then there is no way we can increase sell by by expanding our stock to contain the twelve most popular types. To increase the sell, we have to have more stock of the nine most popular types.

For Q2, I think D is the answer. I used elimination method to get the answer. (A) is not right as it says oppisite - classification is the base of subject matter, and then comes usefulness (B) is not right because this argument has nothing to do with the type of lecture. (C) is not right because the argumentn has no mention about difference being personally taught- in that case : breath of knowledge also would have been better to be taught personally by teacher (E) is not right because in the passage we are not saying breath of knowledge is complex and depth is simple. (D) is right because it also alligns to the premise - if they simply learn a lot of factual information, without truly understanding its significance, they will not be well equipped for further study on their own. Analysing a few of Greek strategy will help understand the significance and not just learn some factual information

Hi All. I have my GMAT online exam scheduled for tomorrow morning.
I wanted to know if we can send out our score to schools well after the exam (let us say after couple of days) free of cost or we have to choose schools then and there?
I know, in case of in-centre exams, we can send afterwards but it costs some amount. But in online exam, for sending the scores free, do we have to submit schools then and there?

In case of online exam, you will get to choose 5 schools for Free once you receive the official score (i recevied mine within 72 hours).

And if you do not choose the schools within 48 hours from the time of official report, you will have to pay!

You will receive an unofficial score during the exam but you will not be able to either click a picture or get a printout!

Hi Man!
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. However, it has aggravated my anxiety. Do we have to solve a much more difficult test now to get the same score. We are being put at severe disadvantage than others who scored stellar with similar knowledge!

why not A or C??
Because both A and C explain the descipancy very well.
A. On average, houses in the Southeast are newer than those in the other two regions and newer houses are more likely to have added amenities, such as fireplaces
This argument tells us why there are more fireplaces in both the places. Because they are not being treated like a fireplace in the first place. They are just added to the houses, which are new, as an amenities.
C. Homeowners in colder regions are more likely to have a stove, rather than a fireplace, because a stove produces much more heat while a fireplace is largely aesthetic.
Since people in coder regions prefer stove than fireplaces, we’d expect people from two regions to have more stoves than fireplaces. However, people from Southeast do not have any such preference. Therefore, in comparision, southeast will have higher fireplaces.
