Explanation:
The number of feet of fencing needed will be equal to the perimeter of the garden, less the two 4-foot spaces intended to be left unfenced.
We are given the area of the garden, which we can use to find the length of the sides, since the area of a square is equal to the product of 2 of its sides.
If the area is100 square yards, then each side must be 10 yards, because 10 x 10 = 100.
Since 1 yard equals 3 feet, 10 yards equals 30 feet. So we know that the sides of the garden are 30 feet each.
Thus the total perimeter is 4 x 30 = 120 feet.
Now subtract the area to be left unfenced, which is 4 feet on 2 sides, or 8 feet.
The total number of feet of fencing needed is 120 – 8 = 112

If the garden is a square with an area of 100 yards then each side has a length of 10 yards or 30 feet.

The perimeter of the garden is 30x4 = 120 feet; then we must subtract 8 feet for the two gates, 120-8 = 112

=> The number of feet of fencing Joseph need is: 10*4*3 - 4*2 = 112 feet.

Side of the garden = 10 yard = 30 feet
Perimeter of the garden = 4*30 = 120 feet
Portion of perimeter unfenced = 4*2 = 8 feet

• The area of the vegetable garden = 100 square yards = 100 *9 square feet = 900 square feet
Area, x^2 = 900(Suppose side of the square = x feet)
Or,x = 30

Total fence = 4*30 = 120 feet including a space of 4 feet on 2 sides
Excluding a space of 4 feet on 2 sides = 8 feet.
Total fence needed = 120-8 = 112 feet(C)

We are given that the Area of the square garden is 100sq.yds, hence the length of each side is 10.
Now we are given that Joseph intends to install gates on two sides of the garden with each gate measuring 4 feets. We are to determine the length of fence required in feet.

Perimeter of the garden in feet = 3*4*10 = 120ft
Length of two gates = 2*4 = 8ft
Fence required = 120-8 = 112ft.

The answer is C.

—> let’s say that the side of the square is equal to x
—> x^{2} = 100 —> x = 10 yards
x = 10 yards = 30 feet
Perimeter = 40 yards = 120 feet
120 —8 = 112 feet

if we do fencing on one side automatically other end also reduces....so now it becomes a rectangle with l=26,b=30
perimeter for fencing=112
