I don't know how this happened. I scored a 580 on the GMAT software 2 days ago and was expecting a similar result today.

I started studying around June, took about 3 weeks off before the test. I think the break helped; I was getting stressed out before. After the break I went into the test center relaxed and ready.

Getting a good night's sleep is very important, probably as much as studying for the test.

I dunno what else to say. I'm surprised but it's a welcome surprise. I'm applying to MAcc programs with averages around 650.

Thanks guys, I was too stunned at the time to post a more detailed response but here are a few thoughts:

- The practice questions on GMATclub are much harder than the actual test questions IMO. My score breakdown was a 43Q/41V. There were maybe 4 or 5 questions I found to be extremely difficult. I just guessed on these and moved on. Don't spend too much time on one question or you'll fall behind. It's very hard to catch up on the GMAT.

- This will sound counterintuitive, but it helps if you stop studying a few days before the GMAT. I only did one computer GMAT the week before my test. The break helps you relax; you don't want to be stressed out and there isn't much you can learn in the last few days that will help.

- Get a good night's sleep. The test is hard enough when you're at full strength, it is probably a nightmare when you're exhausted and nervous.

- Be confident when you take the test. Imagine that you will do very well.

That's it from me. Good luck all
