x is the value of holdings prior 1990
In 1990 4,00,000 value were added to the company
In 1991 company suffered 10,00,000 loss
And the value after the year 1991 is half of that of the prior 1990
The operation will be:
X+4,00,000-10,00,000
X-6,00,000 is = x/2
X-6,00,000 = x/2

Company Y holding's prior to 1990 = x $
Company Y's holding's in 1990 = x + 4000000 $
Company Y's holding's in 1991 = x + 4000000 - 10000000 $ = x - 6000000 $.

At the end of 1991, Company Y's holdings were worth half what they were just prior to 1990
=> x/2 = x - 6000000 $.

Prior to 1990 let Holding X
In 91, 4000000 holding increased
And in 91, 10000000 loss occurred.

Total holding in 91
X+4000000
As per info holdings worth half what that were prior to 90
X/2 = X+4000000-10000000
X/2 = X-6000000
