Kaplan tests notorious difficulty??? [#permalink]

Hi,
D-17 to the actual test. :)

I took Kaplan's free online test (the one they give you by registering at their website). Well, I've read many people saying that Kaplans tests are DIFFICULT and that 650 in Kaptest roughly equates to 700+ in the real thing. They say Kaptest math section is HARD.

Well, on the one I took, math section was WAY EAISER than GMATPrep and so was the verbal section...The test overall was easy compared to GMATPrep, so I suppose this is not closer to the real thing...

I got 33/37 in math and it gave me a scaled score of 45 (when 31/37 in GMATPrep gave me 50!) and 35/41 in verbal with a scaled score of 43 (when 34/41 in GMATPrep gave me 44), overall being 720.

Given the difference in difficulty between the two, I can understand the disparity in the scaled scores...

Yea, I got 720 but I'm not as happy as I should be :? (I'm sorry)

I suppose this is NOT the usual Kaptest that people are talking about?
Perhaps because this is free, it's easy?

Can I buy other kaptests online (in CAT) or do I have to buy a kaplan book and the tests come along with it?

Thanks in advance :-D

The difficult Kaplan tests are the ones included on their CD..........the online version and diagnostic are much easier

I've heard the same thing, easier online and harder on the CD.

For a better feel for your score do the GMATPrep and Princeton Review. They're much more like the real thing, both in terms of how the questions are written and the scoring algorithms (they're adaptive).
