There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
Lots of great things in your profile. Being female and Russian will help to distinguish you right off the bat. Both Russia and females are under-represented in b-schools. You have great academic preparation and a great GMAT score, so coupled with your work experience, especially with a Buldge bracket accounting firm, you should be set up for a good run at applications to your target schools. in fact, you may consider even trying for round three if you are thinking fall 2013 matriculation. Your profile, if written up and presented well, could potentially fill one of the niches schools are looking for in this third round. Let us know if we can help you pull your story together.
The top schools are particularly good about giving grace on GMAT believe it or not. It's far more important to have an interesting story to tell and a background of demonstrated achievements. Think about it: HBS, Wharton, Stanford etc, are so well established in their reputations, that they literally could not damage it with a marginal dip in an occasional yearly GMAT average. There have been students admitted to these schools with 4-500 on the GMAT. Focus on your story and how you tell it. The 690 clearly demonstrates academic ability, so I would not fret about it one bit.
