I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how often the Knewton class teaches or discusses
official guide problems?
To see where I am going with this, here is some background information:
I have taken the GMAT three times over the course of about 7 months, and I am going to give it one last shot. My first attempt was a 640, my second attempt a 630, and most recent attempt a 650. Quant is my biggest weakness, but I have managed to increase it during each attempt, going from a 36, to a 42, and finally a 43 on my most recent exam. However, on verbal, I went from a 41 (92nd percentile) on the first attempt, to a 34 (68th percentile,) and finally a 35 (73rd percentile) on my most recent exam.
I took the ManhattanGMAT course prior to my first exam, and they utilized a lot of
official guide problems in class and every assignment consisted of
MGMAT material along with
official guide material. Therefore I ended up getting a lot of practice with
official guide questions leading up to my first attempt. Prior to my second exam, I focused heavily on quant, and looked at the verbal very sparingly. However, timing and stamina issues are what derailed me in my second attempt. In preparing for my third attempt, I figured that if I could fix my timing and stamina, I would see a verbal score similar to what my first attempt was. I managed to address the timing issues but with that said, I did not even look at any
verbal official guide questions this time around, since I had already gone through every single question in the
OG in my two previous attempts. The only verbal I did leading up to this third attempt was via Kaplan and its online quiz bank. So I feel that either A) my initial verbal score was a complete fluke, (hard to believe that I could score that high based on pure luck) or that B) not studying with official questions really threw me off as I wasn't used to the format.
Basically, I see that Knewton boasts 3500+ practice problems, but how similar are they to the actual official questions? In class, are
the official guide questions discussed? Are they assigned for homework? I would appreciate any thoughts as I am very interested in enrolling, but hesitant because I still feel the best practice comes from doing
the official guide problems.
