Given Chris earned x dollars per hour for the first 40 hours worked plus 22 dollars per hour for each hour worked beyond 40 hours.

Chris worked for 48 hours.

Therefore Chris earned in 8 extra hours $$= 22*8 = 176$$

Chris earned a total of 816 dollars.

$$816 = 40x + 176$$

$$40x = 816 - 176 = 640$$

$$x = \frac{640}{40} = 16$$. Answer (D)...

$$816 = 40*x + 22*8$$

Or, $$816 = 40x + 176$$

Or, $$816 = 40x + 176$$

Or, $$40x = 640$$

Or, $$x = 16$$

Thus, answer must be (D) 16

Nice question.

Here is what I did for this one =>

Number of hours => 48 => 40+8
Hence the total income => 40x+22*8 which is equal to 816

Hence 40x+22*8=816
x=16

Smash that D.

$x per hour - 40 hours$ 22 per hour - Every subsequent hour
$816 - 48 hours => 40x + 22*8 = 816 => x = 16 D is the answer. _________________ Put in the work, and that dream score is yours! We're asked for the value of x ?

With the given information, we can create the following equation (and solve):
40X + 8(22) = 816
40X + 176 = 816
40X = 640
X = 16

All explanations above seem to be perfect , I'm just trying to express an easy calculation below:

40 x + 22* 8 = 816 [I assume all could understand till here.]
=>8(5x + 22) = 816
=>5x + 22 = 102
=>5x = 80
=>x = 16

So we're told that he worked 48 hours in total;

that means 40 regular hours and 8 overtime hours. 40 hours that is

the time, and the rate per hour is X dollars per hour; so that means that the

amount of work, in other words the amount of money that was saved here, is 40 times X.

So 40X plus 8 times 22, and that equals an 816; basically the question

just boils down to a single equation with a single unknown: what is the value of X?
D : 16
