(A) Less than 90 years after the Mongol hordes broke out of the borders of present-day Mongolia----The underlined part should be in form of condition, it is like a condition but is very awkward, kept as contender.
(B) In less than 90 years since the Mongol hordes breaking out of the borders of present-day Mongolia
(C) In less than 90 years since the Mongol hordes had been broken out of the borders of present-day Mongolia---use of had been is worng its used with time, precisely with number. hence its wrong.
(D) It took less than 90 years from the Mongol hordes breaking out of the borders of present-day Mongolia when---condition is not expressed use of after is preferred here.
(E) It took less than 90 years after the time that the Mongol hordes broke out of the borders of present-day Mongolia, so that
--- no condition is mentioned here moreover its wordy.

Can any one correct or second my thought that "had " should not be used with time or numbers.
And pls post OA and OE.

(E) It took less than 90 years after the time that the Mongol hordes broke out of the borders of present-day Mongolia, so that

I chose A.

B is awkward because of the phrase, "Mongol hordes breaking out of the borders", broke out of the borders sounds better which is an action that happened in the past.

C says "had been broken out" which is incorrect.

D,E are wordy and awkward.

B wrong because we cant use "since" as it is used in B
C wrong because "had been" is not required. in fact even simple past wont work here because of the "since" which goes with present perfect.
D It took less than 90 years from the Mongol hordes - this is totally absurd .
E. so that is wrong.... "after that time" is wrong...

Cheers

its bxn A , B n C

C : since X..................had been broken out, Y

B : since X .................breaking out , Y

A : after X...................broke out , Y

guess A is much nattily dressed than its counterparts ; simple n clear.

A , my take.

I didn't like this question at all. Shouldn't it be fewer than 90 years instead of less? I think all answer choices are wrong
