Shouldn't it be fewer than? [#permalink]

Just wondering, is it better to use fewer than instead of less than?

Fewer is used for countable things whereas less is used for uncountable things. Is age better used with less?

Thanks.

This is a stupid question but why is "had been" in C wrong??? Should it be "were"??

Thanks.

"Had been..." is often used to show Past Perfect Continuous Tense. The Past Perfect Continuous tense is used to refer to a continuous, ongoing action in the past which was already completed by the time another action in the past took place.

e.g. "I had been working in the IT line for fifty years before I became a banker".

In the honeybees SC question, I think the use of "had been released" is not correct as it is neither a Past Perfect Continuous Tense nor in the correct form of had been xxx-ing.

I disagree...THe sentences says" within some time frame so use of In less than is mandatory...C seems correct choice from that point of view.

Clearly choice A is misspelled, otherwise no way it could be OA.

IMO it should sound like less than 35 years after...

Since is used for ongoing actions. This would require the non-underlined main verb to be have migrated in the non underlined portion.
After would require had migrated in the non underlined portion

so b,c,d is out.
e is awkward

A) Less that 35 years after the release of African honeybees outside Sao Paulo, Brazil
B) In less that 35 years since releasing African honeybees outside Sao paulo, Brazil
C) In less than 35 years since African honeybees had been released outside Sao paulo, Brazil
D) It took less that 35 years from the release of African honeybees outside Sao Paulo, Brazil
E) It took less than 35 years after the time that African honeybees were released outside Sao Paulo, Brazil, and then

Answer D & E are out because they do not make any sense. "It took mary 5 years TO DO etc..." here there is the last part missing...

I have a huge problem with this question:

Their points to " the release of African honeybees" and not African Honeybees.

It's similar to :

The release of the movie has been delayed.

Subject is "the release"; I believe their is wrongly used here.
