Lets work with the data given to us. We know that there ratio of cats to dogs is 5:6 or

cats 5
dogs 6

we can write number of cats as 5x and number of dogs as 6x and we know that 6x-5x= 18 (therefore x = 18)
Then # of dogs = 6x18= 108 Answer is D

Can anyone help me with this problem. Would greatly appropriate it.

Given: \(\frac{cats}{dogs}=\frac{5x}{6x}\), for some positive multiple \(x\).

Also: \(dogs-cats=6x-5x=18\) --> \(x=18\) --> \(dogs=6x=108\).

Answer: D.

1 represents 18

So, Number of dogs is 18*6 = 108, Answer must be (D)

d/(d-18)=6/5
d=108

Let the number of cats be \(x\)

Let the number of dogs be \(y\)Since Local kennel has cats and dogs in the ratio of 5:6, \(\frac{x}{y}\)= \(\frac{5}{6}\)

\(6x = 5y\)

Since, there are 18 fewer cats than dogs,\(y - 18 = x\)

\(y = 18 + x\)

\(6x = 5( 18 + x )\)

\(6x = 90 + 5x\)

\(x = 90\)

\(6 * 90 = 5y\)

\(y = 18 * 6 = 108\)

The correct answer is D

We can express the ratio of cats to dogs as 5x : 6x. We can create the equation:

6x - 5x = 18

x = 18

Thus, there are 6 x 18 =108 dogs in the kennel.

Answer: D

Let D = # of Dogs
Let C = # of Cats

There are 18 fewer cats than dogs.
So, C = D - 18

cats and dogs are in the ratio of 5:6
We get: C/D = 5/6
Cross multiply to get: 6C =5D

Take 6C =5D and replace C with D - 18 to get: 6(D - 18) = 5D
Expand: 6D - 108 = 5D
Subtract 6D from both sides to get: -108 = -D
So, D = 108

Answer: D
